Lionel Richie Postpones Remaining Earth, Wind & Fire Tour Dates

Lionel Richie has postponed three upcoming concerts with Earth, Wind & Fire as he takes time away from touring following a heart procedure.

The 77-year-old singer underwent a procedure for atrial fibrillation, or AFib, with a representative for Richie saying the procedure was successful and that the performer is recovering well.

“The doctor said everything went perfectly,” Richie’s representative said in a statement. “Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.”

The postponements affect the remaining dates on Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire’s current “Sing a Song All Night Long” run: September 26 at Chase Center in San Francisco, September 30 at United Center in Chicago and October 2 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The latest disruption comes after Richie previously postponed the Chicago and Columbus stops in June after becoming ill during the opening night of the tour in St. Paul, Minnesota. At the time, tour organizers said Richie had been advised by doctors to rest before returning to the road. The June 26 Chicago show was ultimately moved to September 30, while the June 27 Columbus show was rescheduled for October 2. 

The San Francisco show has also now been postponed twice for separate medical issues.

The concert was originally scheduled for August 6 at Chase Center before Earth, Wind & Fire announced shortly before showtime that it could not perform because of a medical emergency involving a band member. The date was subsequently moved to September 26.

Richie’s next currently listed performances are part of his “King of Hearts” residency at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, beginning October 14. His official website continues to list Las Vegas dates on October 14, 16 and 17, followed by three additional performances in November. There has been no announcement that those shows have been affected.
