'Ozzy Day' to be Celebrated in Birmingham to Honor Late Music Icon

The city of Birmingham, England is marking the one-year anniversary of the passing of the late metal music icon Ozzy Osbourne with “Ozzy Day.”

The one-day celebration will be held in Osbourne’s hometown on July 22, featuring live music, tributes, and other activities. The Chair Central of the Birmingham Business Improvement District Sam Watson noted in a press release that “Ozzy Day is a fantastic example of Birmingham working together to celebrate the legendary Ozzy Osbourne.”

“By bringing together businesses, cultural organisations and public spaces, we’re creating a city centre wide experience that encourages people to celebrate the legacy of a truly global, Birmingham-born icon.”

Events will take place across Birmingham City Centre, where visitors will be able to explore places that helped shape Ozzy’s story, with activities at the Black Sabbath Bench and Bridge, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Birmingham New Street Station, Bullring, Selfridges, and Martineau Place. Fans can also expect to see pop-up performances across the city from Bostin Brass, playing music from Ozzy and Black Sabbath in the streets.

Councillor Deborah Harries, Cabinet Member for Culture, Birmingham City Council, added that “Ozzy Osbourne is one of Birmingham’s foremost cultural figures, and we continue to honour his legacy here in the city, where his journey began.”

“I am glad to see the city partners coming together to celebrate Ozzy’s influence on music and his pride in his hometown,” Harries said.

The “Prince of Darkness” passed away at 75-years-old on July 22, 2025, just 17 days after he performed at “Back to the Beginning,” a special one-night-only concert at Birmingham’s Villa Park. During the concert, Ozzy sang as a solo artist, including a ballad of “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” and also performed alongside his band Black Sabbath. The show featured acts like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and more.

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, Osbourne rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, garnering attention with hits like “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” and “War Pig.” The band went on to become a staple in the rock genre complete with heavy riffs and an aggressive, irreplaceable sound.

Following his time with Black Sabbath, Osbourne launched a wildly successful solo career, topping charts with tracks like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” He released more than a dozen solo albums and earned numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Metal Performance.

The rocker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Black Sabbath in 2006 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his solo career. His legacy endures through generations of fans and artists who cite his music and persona as major influences in the evolution of rock.
