‘The Greatest Showman; Stage Musical Sets Spring 2027 West End Run

The stage adaptation of “The Greatest Showman” is heading to London’s West End, with the musical scheduled to begin performances at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in spring 2027. Exact performance dates have not yet been announced. 

The production was announced during the D23 Disney fan convention in Anaheim, California. Casey Nicholaw, whose credits include “The Book of Mormon” and “Mean Girls,” will direct and choreograph the musical.

The West End production will follow a sold-out world premiere run at The Bristol Hippodrome earlier this year. Much of the Bristol cast will return for the London production, including Oliver Tompsett as P.T. Barnum and Samantha Barks as Charity Barnum.

Ben Joyce will reprise his role as Phillip Carlyle, while Vajèn van den Bosch will play Jenny Lind and Malinda Parris will return as Lettie Lutz. Additional casting will be announced later. Natalie Gallacher is casting the production for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.

Based on the 2017 film starring Hugh Jackman, “The Greatest Showman” follows P.T. Barnum as he creates an entertainment company featuring a group of performers who have been marginalized by society. The movie was a major commercial success, with its soundtrack becoming one of its most recognizable elements.

Tim Federle wrote the stage adaptation’s book, based on Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon’s screenplay and a story by Bicks. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the songs for the film, have returned for the stage version.

The creative team for “The Greatest Showman” includes Alex Lacamoire as music supervisor, with incidental and dance music arrangements and orchestrations. David Korins is designing the sets, while Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser are responsible for costumes. Natasha Katz is designing the lighting, and Peter Hylenski is handling sound.

George Reeve will create the video design, while Lorenzo Pisoni is responsible for circus creation and design. Josh Marquette will oversee hair and wigs, with Milagros Medina-Cerdeira handling makeup. Jeremy Chernick is designing special effects and Skylar Fox is responsible for illusions.

Keston & Keston will serve as general managers and children’s casting director, while The 7 Fingers will handle acrobat casting. Disney Theatrical Group is producing the musical with The Seelig Group. 

In a statement, Disney executives Anne Quart and Andrew Flatt said, “It’s rare for a new film musical to capture the world’s imagination in the way The Greatest Showman has — both for its story and record-breaking soundtrack.”

“The piece is fearless in its emotion: open-hearted, exuberant, and unapologetically joyous, celebrating those considered outsiders and dreamers,” they continued. They also described the stage score as featuring “bold, infectious songs that feel they were always destined for the stage.”
